Truelist verification results
Truelist provides comprehensive email verification results through two main attributes: email state and email sub-state. These attributes help you understand the deliverability and quality of the email addresses in your list.
Email State
The email state gives a high-level status of the email address’s deliverability. Here are the possible values:
- ok: The email address is deliverable and appears to be valid.
- risky: The email address has some issues that might affect deliverability.
- invalid: The email address is undeliverable and should be removed from your list.
- unknown: The deliverability of the email address could not be determined.
Email Sub-State
The email sub-state provides a more detailed result code, offering a finer granularity of the email address status. Here are the possible values:
- Ok: The email address is valid and deliverable.
- Accept all: The domain accepts all emails, making it impossible to verify individual addresses.
- Disposable address: The email address is a temporary, disposable address.
- Role address: The email address is a role-based address (e.g., info@, sales@).
- Failed mx check: The email address failed the mail exchange server check.
- Failed smtp check: The email address failed the SMTP server check.
- Failed spam trap: The email address is identified as a spam trap.
- Failed no mailbox: The email address does not have a valid mailbox.
- Failed greylisted: The email address is temporarily rejected by the server (greylisting).
- Failed syntax check: The email address failed the syntax validation.
Understanding the Results
When you perform an email verification using Truelist, you will receive both the email state and email sub-state for each email address. Here’s how to interpret these results:
Safe addresses
- Ok: The email address is deliverable and safe to use.
Risky addresses
- accept all: The domain accepts all emails, so individual address validity cannot be confirmed. Use caution.
- disposable address: The email is a temporary address and might not be reliable for long-term communication.
- role address: The email is a role-based address, which might not be monitored by a specific individual.
Invalid addresses
- Failed mx check: The email address has no valid mail exchange servers.
- Failed smtp check: The email address failed to pass the SMTP verification.
- Failed spam trap: The email address is flagged as a spam trap and should be avoided.
- Failed no mailbox: The email address does not exist.
- Failed greylisted: The email was temporarily rejected (greylisted), and reattempting later might succeed.
- Failed syntax check: The email address has an invalid format and fails syntax validation.
Unknown results
- Unknown: The system could not determine the status of the email address. This happens rarely for some older SMTP servers that use greylisting.
By leveraging Truelist’s detailed verification results, you can ensure your email campaigns are more effective and maintain a high deliverability rate.
